AOV Systems in Surrey and West Sussex

Automatic Opening Vent systems, commonly known as AOV systems, help control smoke by opening windows, vents or smoke shaft doors when activated. JPEC Fire & Security installs, tests, maintains and repairs smoke ventilation and AOV systems across Surrey and West Sussex.

By helping smoke and heat move out of escape routes and communal areas, an appropriately designed AOV system can improve conditions for evacuation and support firefighting operations. The exact arrangement must be suited to the building and coordinated with its wider fire safety strategy.

Automatic Smoke Ventilation for Different Buildings

AOV systems are commonly found in apartment blocks, communal stairwells, corridors, atria and commercial buildings. A system may include opening windows or roof vents, smoke shaft dampers, actuators, control panels, smoke detectors, manual override controls and interfaces with other fire safety equipment.

We can help with new installations and alterations to existing systems. Each project begins with an assessment of the building and the available design information so that the proposed equipment and controls are appropriate for the intended smoke control strategy.

AOV Testing and Maintenance

An AOV system may be called upon only in an emergency, which makes routine inspection and functional testing particularly important. Vents need to open correctly, actuators and controls must respond as intended, and any associated detection or interface signals need to operate reliably.

Our maintenance service can check system operation, investigate faults and identify worn, damaged or obsolete components. If an existing smoke ventilation system is unreliable or no longer suitable following changes to the building, we can advise on remedial work or an upgrade.
